Aeolian Islands

The Aeolian Islands to be discovered

The Aeolian Islands are an archipelago of volcanic origin located in the Tyrrhenian Sea on the northern coast of the Sicily, on the north side of the Sicilian coast.

The archipelago of the Aeolian Islands, in 2000, it was proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's about seven islands, seven beautiful natural paradises to spend a wonderful holiday in an irresistible sea. Being able to visit these places from a sailing boat will make you experience the nature of these breathtaking landscapes in an even more authentic way.

Indeed the coasts and the seabed they are amazing but the hinterland of the islands is also full of charm, you will certainly not be bored, in fact you will find: imposing volcanoes always active, curiously shaped rock formations, luxuriant vegetation that will surprise you.

Aeolian Islands

Each island has its typical and unique characteristics: Alicudi e Filicudi for example they are perfect if you love being more in contact with nature, Salina you will love it because it is the home of Slow Food, Vulcano will surprise you with its sulphurous waters, Stromboli will fascinate you for its typical alleys and for the spectacle of the active volcano, Panarea you will fall in love with it because it is a small favor for relaxation lovers.

Finally there is Lipari the largest island among the seven, which can be considered the right compromise if you love nature, a beach holiday, but with more services and night clubs to go out in the evening.

here are the seven good reasons to choose the Aeolian Islands and visit them on a sailing boat.

Lipari

In Lipari you can see its famous pumice beaches and its castle on top of a volcanic fortress, which stands on the acropolis, where you can admire a splendid view.

Inside the walls of the Castle of Lipari you can visit the Aeolian Archaeological Museum, one of the most important in Europe, in fact, ancient archaeological finds are kept. You can admire another splendid panorama from the hill of the white oneOld Church of Quattropani and from Volcanological museum worth a visit.

You can appreciate the bustle of Corso Vittorio Emanuele and Via Garibaldi and get lost in the narrow alleys. Each lane will take you to the small port of Marina Corta with its small square where shows and events take place in the summer.

If you love particular beaches, the abandoned pumice quarry is a spectacular place, where the pumice stone meets the turquoise sea creating a wonderful contrast of colors. This beach is perfect to reach by sailing boat because the white backdrops give the water an intense blue color, irresistible call to a dive from the boat!

In addition you can also see the white beach that you find in Canneto; you can only reach it by sea, for this reason it is an oasis of peace and relaxation.

Vulcano

As soon as you disembark in Vulcano the smell that will overwhelm you is not of salt but of sulfur. In fact, the volcano has never stopped making itself felt: fumarole, underground steam jets, you will find them in different parts of the island. The volcano is alive and it will be a pleasure to admire him being the soul of the island.

This island was formed on the conjunction of several volcanoes, but owes its name to god Vulcan (Hephaestus in Greek mythology) because according to the legends on this island were his forges.

If you wish, you can climb the volcano up to the La Fossa crater, if you can get to the top you can admire the lunar landscape that sets it apart, completely deserted. Once you reach the top, you will enjoy a magnificent view over all the Aeolian Islands; you will feel rewarded for the effort of having climbed it.

On your return you can stop for a swim in the Mud puddle, which seems to have beneficial properties and the water is very hot. Not far away there is the Beach from the Black Sands with a dark and very fine volcanic sand which gives a truly special aspect to the bay.

Obviously sailing with the Sailboat you will have more opportunities to see particular beaches like this.

Here in Vulcano do not expect to find a lot of nightlife or fashion: you will have the benefit of breathing true tranquility.

Panarea

Aeolian Islands

Panarea it is the smallest of the islands in the archipelago, but it is a real gem! In fact you can admire the triumph of nature, colors, flowers and perfumes between the narrow streets where you can only walk and where you can see white and blue villas.

In front of the marina you will find the square and the main street with restaurants and some elegant shops and in the narrow streets inside you can appreciate the authentic charm of Panarea.

The beaches and coves of this small island are small paradises that are difficult to reach if not thanks to a sailing boat. Wonderful bath you can take in the bay of the island of Basiluzzo, about 1 mile from Panarea.

Stromboli

Stromboli, another volcanic island, it is famous for the still active volcano and for its wonderful black beach.

On the slopes of the volcano is located Ginostra, a small village accessible only by boat, its port is the smallest in the world! Indeed, more than a port, it's just a small pier.

Don't miss the beach next to the main port made of sassi lavici neri, the water is an intense blue despite the deep seabed.

Eoilie islands

The town of Stromboli is very characteristic and deserves a walk with its small narrow streets and white houses. From here you can admire the islet of Strombolicchio and its lighthouse.

You will see the real discovery when evening comes, because the inhabitants of Stromboli turn with the torce of the torce, in fact, the streets of the island are devoid of electric lighting, the atmosphere is truly unique!

Also if you are lucky enough to go when the volcano is active in the evening you can see the jets of incandescent lava that splash from the mouth of the volcano that contrast with the night sky. Safe distance sailing off the coast Fire ski it will make you admire a unique and rare sight, especially at night.

Salina

Salina is the largest island of the archipelago of the Eoilie Islands, very green and best known for i capers, malvasia and for the fact that the famous film with Massimo was shot here Troisi The Postman.

You can go with the sailing boat to Tongue the fishing village, where you will find the wooden boats with which they go fishing. The water is splendid but the beaches are a bit uncomfortable because of the stones!

Don't forget to go for a ride in the narrow streets of Santa Marina, visit the area where they were the salt pans and take a dip in the Pollara bay (used for the Troisi film scene)

On the other side, do not miss the small Salina Rinella, a restaurant, a place that makes music, an air of serenity in the small village will still relax you on your boat trip.

Filicudi

Filicudi it is the most distant island from Lipari, it is a rocky island with some peaks that reach a certain height. With the Sailboat you can see the Grotta del Bue Marino, a cave carved into the rock, where you can also enter with small boats. Here you can admire the colors of the sea of an intense blue. It is so called because when the sea is rough it seems that the cave emits the sound of an ox bellow.

Certainly not to be missed is the huge faraglione called La Canna with the particularity that it is narrow and high beyond 70 meters.

Aeolian Islands

The town of Filicudi is very small, made up of a few houses, 3 O 4 restaurants and a few hotels, it seems to be out of time, a truly fascinating place! In fact, you will seem to have gone back to 50 years!

The area of Pecorini on the opposite side of the island, it has attracted elite tourism and a consequent setting that I would define radical-chic, where the mix of local merchants offering their home-cooked food and the new generation restaurants, including some Sushi.

Then there are some shops that offer clothing that is not purely local and a vain establishment at the end of the road from which you can enjoy a wonderful sunset between palm trees.

In this part of the island they have created a setting that is no longer original, but definitely relaxing, even if generated by new additions and styles.

Alicudi

Even more than in Filicudi, ad Alicudi time seems to have stopped, there are no signs of progress, of modernity or technology. There are no roads, there are no cars or motorcycles, you can only go around the village on foot or at most with donkeys to carry tourists' luggage, that are very few.

Obviously in a logo so far from the modern world, arriving with your own sailing boat is ideal! The sea is particularly clear and you will not be able to resist throwing yourself admiring the panorama of this wonderful island. The seabed is very deep, each type of anchor must only be diurnal, and in any case checked on sight.

The Aeolian islands to visit in Sailing boat are a perfect holiday in fact you can discover coves, caves and beaches that if you were on foot you could never see.

It is also a journey that satisfies the senses, in fact there is not only the sea and unspoiled nature, that will leave you breathless, but also the good food that you can taste when you go ashore to visit the enchanting places of this splendid land.
